HG2: A Hedonist’s Guide to

Ten Belles (cafe), Paris

A worthy detour from the sunny quais along the Canal Saint-Martin, Ten Belles is a miniature delight whose spot-on motto (“drinking good coffee is sexy”) is reason enough to venture in. That and the fact that it’s one of the better places in Paris for third-wave coffee. The modern café is busy with avid espresso swillers, likely found reading or chatting outdoors on a nice day (lack of Wi-Fi makes this a largely laptop-free zone). Inside, there are a handful of tables downstairs, with a mezzanine offering views over the hustle and bustle below. Alongside the requisite flat whites (made with raw milk, natch) can be found an assortment of mouthwatering pastries, with the unusual addition of sausage rolls and banana bread alongside the more expected Gallic favourites. If no seats remain, you can always grab your treats à emporter and join the bohemian crowds back on the water’s edge.
